After forcing a game 2 with a 9-8 win the UCF Baseball team fell 9-6 to Houston Cougars in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. With the loss the Knights’ 2022 season came to an end.
The Knights got off to a rough start to game 1 with Cougars, finding themselves in a 4-hold by the fourth inning. The Knights got things going when scored two RBI’s on a sacrifice fly to center field as the team scored 4 runs after sending nine batters to the plate by the end of the inning.
UCF ultimately found themselves tied with Houston, 8-8 in the ninth inning. With two runners on base at the bottom of the 10th inning, Gephry Pena hit a double to left field to force a game two with the Cougars.
The Knights once again fell behind early, as Houston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. UCF was able to tie up the game with solo home runs by Alex Freeland and Ben McCabe by the bottom of the first inning.
The Knights grabbed their biggest lead of the night when McCabe homered for the second time in the game and Pena singled to Center field to put UCF ahead 6-4 by the end of the sixth inning.
Houston ultimately tied up the game with a double in the eighth inning and shut the door on the Knights’ season with a three-run homer in the ninth to end UCF’s AAC title aspirations.
With the loss, the Knights finished the 2022 season 35-25.
