The Colorado Avalanche secured the Game 1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning Wednesday night.
Gabriel Landeskog posted the first goal for the Avalanche only seven minutes into the game. After holding on during a tough Tampa Bay power play, Landeskog responded moments after with tight goal that went past Andrei Vasilevskiy’s leg.
Just two minutes after the first goal, Valeri Nichushkin managed to slip a goal through Vasilevskiy’s five-hole, bringing the score to 2-0.
The first period ended with a score of 3-1 after Artturi Lehkonen’s one-timer during the Avalanche’s two-man advantage power play.
The Lightning picked up momentum on the second period. Ondrej Palat picked up a tight assist, giving him the opportunity for the Lightning’s second goal.
Only a minute later Mikhail Sergachev fired the puck, hitting the post and giving the Lightning a tied game.
The third period was left scoreless, forcing an overtime.
It didn’t take long for the Avalanche to seal the overtime victory.
At the 1:23 mark, Andre Burakovsky soared his shot into the right side of the net, giving the Avalanche a 4-3 win over the Lightning.
The Lightning will take on the Avalanche for Game 2 this Saturday at 8 p.m. in Denver.
