Starting on July 1, UCF will eliminate physical parking permits and decals in favor of virtual ones on all campuses.

New technology implemented by parking services will be able to eliminate the need for physical permits, with Driver’s license plates acting as their permit instead.

Parking services vehicles will be equipped with License Plate Readers (LBR) that will be able to automatically scan license plates of vehicles parked on campus to see if they have a valid permit for parking.

Andy Rampersad, the assistant director of UCF Parking and Transportation Services says the decision to move away from physical permits will make the process easier for all involved.

“UCF’s transition to virtual permits using LPR technology will simplify the process for parking access while promoting safety, convenience, efficiencies and sustainability,” Rampersad said.

All current permits purchased before July 1 will expire on Aug. 31. All students will need to purchase virtual permits to park on-campus starting this fall semester.

Students can purchase the virtual permits starting July 1 on UCF’s parking website
