A Holocaust museum is coming to Orlando and the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida has revealed some exciting features.
CEO Talli Dippold shares the visitor experience being designed which includes the outside of the building carrying symbolism in the form of a shofar or ram’s horn which is meant to highlight something which has historically for Jewish people symbolized a call to action. Dippold sees this symbol telling the community it is time to take action in the form of coming together in the face of antisemitism.
The plan is for the museum, a project costing $106 million, to be built at the spot of the old Chamber of Commerce building near Lake Ivanhoe. The museum will be a place for all to come together and a place to stand against bigotry.
The exact exhibits are still being worked out but the plan is for the visitor experience to be much more than simple words and pictures. The museum is partnering with the USC Shoah Foundation that Steven Spielberg started with 56,000 testimonies available and aims to leave visitors empowered to make change and be upstanders in their communities.
The plan is to break ground in 2024 and a grand opening in 2026.
