Lt. Benjamin Wootson III  was presented with 3 awards this past Friday after saving a deputy whose car crashed and caught fire.

Deputy Matthew Luxon was driving an SUV that slammed into an overpass near Sanford and caught fire but fortunately was in the sight of Wootson who was off duty and taking his son to a soccer game.

Ammunition in the vehicle had begun to go off by the time Luxon got to the vehicle but he was still able to save Luxon before the pair watched the SUV engulf in flames as they waited for more help to arrive. Wootson won two “life saving” awards and an “Off Duty Hero” award. Wootson hopes his story can inspire others.
