Footballs were not the only thing flying through AT&T Stadium at the UCF vs Texas Tech game – tortillas soared through the air! Saturday night at kickoff, flour tortillas rained down from the hands of Texas Tech fans in the stands. Thanks to a comment made in the 1990s about the lack of fun activities in Lubbock, Texas, fans engage in tortilla throwing festivities at the start of each game! It seems the tradition gave the Red Raiders luck as they secured bowl eligibility over the Knights.
Colton Boomer, kicker for the Knights, was another sight to behold when he successfully pulled off a fake field goal play, gaining a first-down. Unfortunately, he only successfully made one of his two field goal attempts. The game came down to one point, with a score of 24-23.
In the press conference following the game, head coach Gus Malzahn spoke on the “growing pains” and “missed opportunities” the team has faced in the Big 12, especially on the road. Fortunately, the Knights still have one more opportunity to secure their chance at bowl eligibility next week at home against the Houston Cougars. Senior Night celebrations and the dream of a Bowl Game are sure to convince the Knights to rally for their last regular season game!
