Although the UCF Knights came up short against the Cincinnati Bearcats in a 19-13 game, there were improvements that could mean a turning point in UCF’s football season. With Hurricane Milton affecting the Central Florida area, it was possible that Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bearcats was never going to play out. Fortunately, it did, and the Knights had some tricks up their sleeve.

For starters (literally), we saw not one, but two quarterbacks playing their first Big 12 opponent this season. Jacurri Brown, who played in the first two games against Sam Houston and New Hampshire, stepped on the field, earning himself 13 completions out of 20 attempts. Overall he had 207 yards, 1 touchdown, and 84 rushing yards. Freshman EJ Colson played his first ever college football game, and there is definitely room for improvement. Colson was 1 completion out of 4 attempts, and had a net of -6 yards due to being sacked.

Based off of a change of quarterbacks, this could show some promising results. However with tough games against 9th ranked Iowa State, and then the Homecoming game against 13th ranked BYU (subject to change), these games won’t be easy to win. Below is the score summary of Saturday’s game:

1st 8:36 – Nathan Hawks (Bearcats) scores 22 yard field goal; 3-0 Cincinnati

2nd 14:56 – Brendan Sorsby (Bearcats) scores with a 3 yard run, Nathan Hawks converts; 10-0 Cincinnati

2nd 1:52 – Grant Reddick (Knights) scores 22 yard field goals; 10-3 Cincinnati

3rd 8:26 – Kobe Hudson (Knights) scores a 15 yard pass from Jaccuri Brown, Grant Reddick converts; 10-10

3rd 3:06 – Nathan Hawks (Bearcats) scores 51 yard field goal; 13-10 Cincinnati

4th 6:32 – Tony Johnson (Bearcats) scores 4 yard pass from Brendan Sorsby, kick is missed; 19-10 Cincinnati

4th 2:59 – Grant Reddick (Knights) scores 29 yard field goal; 19-13 Cincinnati
