There is no doubt that pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in America.
According to an article by Sportico, “The pickleball takeover began in 2022, when participation grew by 86% year-over-year, but the fad carried over into 2023, with a 52% jump over the prior 12 months.”
In 2023, the panhellenic sorority Alpha Delta Pi at University of Central Florida decided to take advantage of this sport’s popularity and use it for good, hosting the first annual ADPickleball tournament.
As Josie Sellenriek, the Director of Philanthropy at Alpha Delta Pi said, “Last year was our first time hosting Adpickleball and it was a huge success! We had so much fun seeing the other teams participate. We had great feedback and we knew that it was an event we wanted to bring back for this year.”
So what is the goal of ADPickleball?
The ADPickleball proceeds will benefit Ronald Mcdonald House Charities of Central Florida and the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation.
The Ronald Mcdonald House Charities, abbreviated as RMHC, provide a home for families seeking medical care for their children. Alpha Delta Pi adopted RMHC as their national philanthropy in 1979.
The event will be held on Monday, November 18th from 4-8 PM at the UCF outdoor pickleball courts. A variety of student RSOs will be participating for the prize of $200 to a philanthropy of their choice.
“Each year we have a staff member of the Ronald McDonald House comes out to speak about the impact that fundraising makes on their organization and the lives of so many families. It is such a special cause and we are so grateful to be able to work with them each year,” said Sellenriek.
Alpha Delta Pi is very excited to hold an event that will make a real difference through such a fun sport!
