UCF Dining Services, in collaboration with Student Government, recently announced that the Steak ‘n Shake location in the Student Union will be closing.

The Student Union, which opened in 1997, has long been a hub for the UCF community, serving food to nearly 30,000 students and faculty. Over the years, the Union has expanded to accommodate nearly 70,000 students, with various dining options coming and going. Among these, Steak ‘n Shake became a popular spot for students craving burgers and shakes.

However, this beloved eatery will close its doors on November 26th. In its place, UCF Dining Services will introduce The Halal Shack, a fast-casual restaurant specializing in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. The Halal Shack, which first opened in 2017, will bring a fresh option to the Student Union when it opens in early 2025, coinciding with the start of the Spring Semester.

Dining Services explained that this change is aimed at providing students with healthier meal choices and reducing the “guilt” that often accompanies indulgent food options.

So, if you’re a regular at Steak ‘n Shake, be sure to visit one last time before it closes on November 26th. And if you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, get ready for something new and exciting at the start of the Spring Semester!
