Speaking to the media after UCF’s 34-20 loss to Kansas State, which moved the team’s record to 3-1, Head Coach Scott Frost delivered a clear message focused on execution and forward progress.

Despite the defeat, Frost stated the team’s “energy was good,” but emphasized there is significant “room for improvement” as the competition intensifies. He stressed that the upcoming week of practice would be dedicated to ensuring the team plays “fast” against Kansas.

A major concern addressed was the availability of the quarterbacks who suffered AC joint sprains. Frost categorized their status as “TBD,” stating he needs to observe how they “operate this week” to determine who is ready for Saturday.

Specifically, regarding Cam Fancher, Frost noted he “knows he can play well” but will monitor practices before making a final decision.

Frost was candid about the Kansas State loss, attributing it to poor execution, taking responsibility by saying, “A lot of that falls on me.” He pointed to the offense’s failure to sustain drives and make big plays, although he praised the defense for playing well overall.

Turning his attention to the Kansas matchup, Frost highlighted the dual-threat challenge posed by quarterback Jalon Daniels, describing his running and passing abilities as “elite.” Frost affirmed the coaching staff’s goal is to find ways to “minimize their offense and stop Daniels.”

The coach also shared a personal connection regarding the addition of Coach Hope, noting that Hope and the late Coach Shawn Clark were very close. Frost explained that Hope joined the program to honor the work Clark was doing, and his expertise will be a significant asset to the team.

Frost concluded the press conference by stressing the importance of learning from mistakes, particularly for the receivers—who he noted “got too tired too fast” during the last game and using the experience gained from the Kansas State game to be better prepared for Kansas.

The focus remains on improving execution and capitalizing on opportunities to secure their next victory.
