UCF Football Coach Scott Frost used his mid-season press conference, held during the team’s bye week, to emphasize the importance of player health, fundamental improvement, and maintaining consistency ahead of a crucial five-game stretch, starting with a road game against Baylor.
Frost opened the press conference by stating that the bye week arrived at a crucial time for the team, allowing players to focus on health and rest.
The team utilized the time off effectively, dedicating two practices to correcting techniques and fundamental things that needed improvement, and using a third for an early jump on preparing for Baylor.
Reviewing the previous game against West Virginia, Frost liked the fact that the team created more big plays but stressed that consistency and overall execution must improve to sustain offensive drives and prevent big defensive plays.
Looking ahead to the road game, Frost called the Baylor Bears a “talented team” and “one of the most talented teams in this league,” despite their close losses. He emphasized that to win on the road, preparation early in the week is crucial, and the team would adhere to its proven preparation routine.
Coach Frost also highlighted the team’s crucial depth in managing injuries, particularly on the defensive line, where players have adopted a successful “next man up” mentality.
Frost provided an update on the quarterback situation, confirming that Tayven is healthy and ready to go with a full week to prepare as the starter, while receiver Stacy is out for a while following surgery.
On a broader scale, Frost spoke of the evolving nature of his coaching philosophy, noting that college football now mirrors the NFL, where execution and personnel are greater differentiators than scheme, requiring a coach to always be evolving schematically.
He also took a moment to commend Defensive Coordinator Alex Grinch, whose unit has become a strength for the team and one of the best defenses in the Big 12, crediting Grinch for evolving and adjusting.
Frost concluded by stating that his focus remains on Baylor, with a desire for the team to finish the season strong.
