The UCF Meowing Contest was held on the stage outside of Addition Financial Arena on Tuesday, October 14th, and brought hundreds of people together with the same purpose: to meow.
The contest started at 1 p.m., and the chants from the large crowd could be heard all the way to the flag staff at Memory Mall.
“The turnout was sick… 1200 people RSVP’d, and a lot of people showed up, it was pretty good. Everyone seemed pretty positive for the most part, so that was really fun.” UCF Kitty said when asked about their thoughts on the event.
The first round saw over 100 contestants, with the crowd choosing who goes on and who gets eliminated by cheering or booing at said contestant’s meow.
The second round narrowed down to around 60-70 competitors, and those who advanced to the final round were selected by the judges, taking the crowd interactions into consideration.
The final round featured 6 contestants. This round was all on the judges, who would determine the winner, along with 2nd and 3rd place.
The winner of this contest dedicated her meows to her 13-pound cat named Roasted Duck. She was awarded with a labubu, cat food, and two small boxes of Dunkin’.
