Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda joined the Hispanic Federation on Tuesday in Orlando to launch a initiative to serve local Latinx LGBTQ+ communities in Orlando.
Latin Pop star Ricky Martin and singer Michaela Jae Rodriguez joined the Hamilton Actor in announcing the Advance Change Together initiative Tuesday afternoon at the Dr. Phillips Center in downtown Orlando.
The initiative will provide 20 different Latinx nonprofits with grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 to improve infrastructure efforts in those communities.
Hispanic Federation, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping Latin communities, said they will fund the initiative with a $1 million grant for it’s first two years.
Frankie Miranda, the president and CEO of the Hispanic Federation said the initiative is going to prove necessary to the LGBTQ+ Community due to the policy issues being raised in the country.
“We have been identifying all this anti-LGBTQ legislation popping up around the country,” Miranda said. “It’s an indication that once certain groups that have been focusing on abortion get the result they want from the Supreme Court, we’re forecasting that the next frontier is to intensify anti-LGBTQ legislation across the country. We’re seeing it right now.”
