Ericka Dunlap, renowned for winning the Miss America title in 2004, has officially announced her candidacy for the District 5 race in Orlando. A graduate of the University of Central Florida in 2005, Dunlap is among the contenders for the interim Orlando city commissioner position. This district encompasses Parramore, the Mercy Drive area, and extends into Metrowest.

The upcoming election arises in the wake of Commissioner Regina Hill’s suspension subsequent to her arrest in March on multiple charges, including elderly exploitation. The victor of the election will hold the seat until the conclusion of the current term or until Commissioner Hill’s legal proceedings are concluded.

Having previously contested for the District 5 seat in 2017, Dunlap aims to represent her community’s interests, emphasizing her commitment to issues such as housing, public safety, education, healthcare, and local business development. As the first African-American woman to be crowned Miss Florida in 2003 before clinching the Miss America title, Dunlap attributes her journey in the beauty pageant industry to her roots in District 5.
