The LibTech desk, located on the second floor of the John C. Hitt Library, halted operations on Thursday, with signage now asking students to return checked-out technology to the Access Services desk at the opposite end of the building.

Technology lending at UCF’s downtown library location and at the Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) also ceased operations. Hours of operation for each location are listed as “No Longer Available” on UCF Libraries

Students on UCF’s main campus used the LibTech desk to rent out a variety of technological equipment, including laptops, chargers, adapters, computer mice and keyboards, and other computer peripherals.

Employees of both LibTech and the Downtown Library shared in an online forum that they were laid off today, with some receiving no prior notice. They also wrote that some Downtown students had to go to the Main Campus to return technology materials.

At this time, students can only return checked-out items to the Access Services desk. Equipment is not available to rent.

Knight News will further investigate the situation. Check back for more updates.
