In order to perform engaging rock songs, it takes courage, talent, and unyielding passion. The same qualities are needed to run a successful philanthropy.
Rock for Hunger, a non-profit organization formed in 2006 by students of the University of Central Florida, works as a hybrid of music and charity to do something with a noble objective: end starvation and destitution.
CEO Chris Goyzueta, a UCF Alum, leads the organization. According to its press release, Rock for Hunger seeks to “Inspire individuals of all cultures to join together through music, education, and peaceful solutions in order to end the cycle of hunger and poverty.” Since its inception, Rock for Hunger has already raised over $63,000.
This year, Rock for Hunger will take place at the Florida Citrus Bowl on November 6, and the headlining acts include Keller Williams, The Lee Boys, and Zach Deputy.
In order to raise awareness for it’s upcoming festival, last night Rock for Hunger teamed up with WJRR’s Orlando Rocks to host a third annual iRock for Hunger event at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney.
iRock For Hunger featured prominent local bands Milka, Afterglow Radio, Beebs and Her Money Makers, and Junkie Rush. Each band brought something different to the table, from crunchy metal riffs to electrifying guitar solos to poignant acoustic ballads. Hundreds of eager fans were in attendance.
