After Ted Roof’s 33-day stint as the UCF defensive coordinator before bolting for Penn State last month, the Knights were in need of a new defensive coordinator.

Head coach George O’Leary announced Thursday that current linebackers coach Jim Fleming will take over as defensive coordinator for UCF. Fleming joined the staff about a month ago as the Knights linebacker coach after spending last year at Kent State as the linebacker coach.

Fleming has 15 years of experience as a defensive coordinator and will be entering his 26th season overall as a collegiate coach.

Coach O’Leary also announced the additions of  Allen Mogridge, who will oversee tight ends and the special-teams unit, and Tyson Summers to serve as a defensive assistant coach.
