Every year, comic book enthusiasts and newcomers alike come together to celebrate one of America’s oldest sources of entertainment.
Free Comic Book Day is, once again, soon upon us and it’s an event everyone should block out time in their schedule to be a part of. From special guests and cosplayers to the free comic books themselves, Free Comic Book Day is a great way to celebrate a medium which has given so many of us hours of entertainment and bring new readers to the shop.
This year, one of the most anticipated free releases is ‘issue 0’ of the upcoming DC series, New 52 Future’s End. For those unfamiliar with comic books, a 0 issue is usually the introduction to a series, not essential to understanding the story, but certainly rewarding for those who choose to. What makes this free comic book so especially unique is that New 52 Future’s End will not only be one of two weekly releases from DC this year, but it will also officially bring Batman Beyond into the current DC universe.
If you’re looking for a shop to spend Free Comic Book Day at, Epic Comics in Waterford Lakes has plenty to offer this year. There will be a special appearance by Agnes Garbowska, known for her work on the My Little Pony comic books, and Jim Cheung, the artist who previously worked on the critically acclaimed series Young Avengers. Epic Comics will be having a store wide sale and appearances by a few cosplayers as well.
