UCF Men’s Basketball’s Matt Williams will begin professional play with the Miami Heat Summer League.
In Williams’ senior year at UCF, the guard ranked second in the nation in three-pointers made while setting all-time records at his university.
A rival match against USF in March launched Williams into UCF’s record books.
For the 104th three-pointer of the season and 252nd of his career, Williams broke the season record and career record at UCF. The record surpassed Gary Johnson (103, 2004-05) and Jermaine Taylor (251, 2005-09).
With an average 15.1 points per game, Williams, along with B.J. Taylor and Tacko Fall, led the Knights to 24 wins and to the NIT Quarterfinals in Madison Square Garden, New York City.
The alumnus worked out with several teams prior to Thursday’s NBA Draft, UCF Athletics said, including the Orlando Magic, although Williams would go unaccepted in the two rounds.
Williams has accepted an invitation to play with the Miami Heat over the Summer. The Heat will play in the Orlando Summer League from July 1-6 and then to Las Vegas from July 7-17.
