The outfielder from Arizona will bring speed and offensive firepower to the Knights’ lineup.
UCF head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie announced Tuesday that Tawny Swan (Mesa, Ariz.) signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the UCF softball team beginning this fall.
“Tawny is a great athlete and we feel like she can be a huge asset to our team,” Luers-Gillispie said. “Her speed and athletic ability will put her in prime position to make an impact right away at the top of our lineup. We are very excited to have her become part of our UCF softball family.”
A transfer from Scottsdale Community College, the centerfielder was named to the NJCAA Division II Preseason All-America Third Team before leading the Artichokes in 10 major offensive categories in her sophomore season. Swan paced the team in batting average (.438), at bats (112), hits (49), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (1), runs scored (25), on-base percentage (.442), stolen bases (8) and stolen base attempts (13).
At the conclusion of the 2009 season, Swan was named the SCC Outstanding Softball Athlete.
As a freshman at SCC in 2008, Swan tallied a .512 batting average (62-for-121), the fifth-highest average in the NJCAA Region I, to be named to the NJCAA All-Region I First Team and the All-ACCAC Second Team.
Prior to her career at SCC, Swan shined at Highland High School where she garnered some of the sports highest honors at the high school level. Following her senior season, where she batted .528 with five home runs and 23 RBI, the speedy slapper was named to the EA Sports High School Softball All-American First Team, while also earning All-Arizona Team, Arizona Class 5A All-State First Team and East Valley Tribune Class 5A First Team honors.
