There’s tough talk in today’s Orlando Sentinel, where columnist Mike Thomas called on UCF President John Hitt to fire Coach George O’Leary and Athletic Director Keith Tribble over UCF football player Ereck Plancher’s death.

The column comes one day after the Sentinel’s exclusive report, which claimed two of Plancher’s coaches testified they were clueless about him having sickle cell trait — an illness that can strike during rigorous excersize and cause death, especially if not closely monitored.

The testimony cited in the  Sentinel report contradicts what UCF has claimed repeatedly: that coaching staff closely monitored Plancher’s physical condition at every practice and workout.

Plancher’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against UCF. But UCF argues they aren’t liable for any damages, because Plancher signed a liability waiver before he played.
