Decision Made On New Student Union Shop
News, UCF SGA — By Staff on September 11, 2009 at 1:56 pmKnightNews.com has learned what will replace Park Ave. CDs Jr. in UCF’s Student Union.
A quick print shop will move into the empty space, which currently is serving as a temporary lounge, SGA Sen. Jeremy Tellor told KnightNews.com.
Another SGA senator, who did not leave his or her name, said the print shop “would be there for students who need to print something quick and then leave,” on the comment section of our previous story.
According to Tellor, the shop will quickly allow students to print materials they need off a jump drive, and should never take longer than 10 or 15 minutes.
Free printing is available on the second floor of the union at the SGA computer lab, however, long lines and waits are frequent there at peak hours.
KnightNews.com is working to gather more information and details on this breaking story, and we’ll post them here when we do.

This print shop will be free up to about 20 pages front and back a day.
And….
If you want a salad here’s a list…
-KnightStop
-Place across from KnightStop
-Qdoba
-Subway
-Burger King
-Wackadoos
-Corner Cafe
-and those are just the ones in the Union so really… this whole “OMG I rather have a salad bar than free printing” attitude is pretty ridiculous
there are priorities and free printing is on the top, this benefits students and classes which is why we are here in the first place
Also, expanding free printing was on the platform points of the officials you elected into the SGA office so if this wasnt in line with your priorities your vote shouldve went elsewhere.
Stationing someone where very few people are actually willing to stop and talk to you is not an appropriate way to conduct a survey…
@ I want salad
I know there are salad bars @ Knightro’s and the marketplace.
Although I was speaking about any food place in general. Those are what we have enough of. If someone really wants some salad, go buy some freaking lettuce.
Are you seriously that lazy? You realize that this printing isn’t going to be free right? It’s like any other print shop. You pay to print except you’ll be printing at the student union instead of one building over.
Lame.
This sounds amazing! I’m glad I won’t have to walk through the refugee camp outside of the SGA print lab anymore!
Steven,
How many salad bars are there on campus?
I just realized that the poll on this site says that 60% of students don’t support the quick print station. I completely detest the idea.
I would like to point out one of the popular food options at UF is the salad bar in the union.
The SGA people who decided to create that poll should have taken a class in statistics. If they did I would be surprised if they didn’t fail.
BTW, “10 or 15 minutes” will not save anyone ANY time. I can print off a 10 page paper in the library in less than a minute. So no, I don’t see the benefits of this place at ALL.
Juan, that is the lamest excuse for a poll I’ve ever heard. This school sends out a daily “Good Morning UCF” e-mail to EVERY SINGLE STUDENT at this school. How hard would it have been to send out a similar e-mail asking for opinions on what we want in (I repeat) the STUDENT Union?
Juan,
The fact that you go to the same school as me is embarrassing. If that’s what you call a poll then you are stupid.
If you ask the students if they would like to have another place for free on campus they’re going to say yes. If you ask the kids if they support another UCF knights clothing shop on campus they’re going to say yes. If you ask them if they want a salad bar they’re going to say YES!
This is a poll that leads you into saying yes to a response without giving you any alternative options. A real poll would ask you which one you would rather have out of all of those options. And don’t you think it’s odd that the place they decide to go to in order to poll the students is outside of the SGA lab when there are students waiting? Instead of going around to different parts of the campus to get a better sample, they’re purposely targeting a specific group of people who they know will say yes to another printing location.
Steven,
Where else on campus is there a healthy place to eat outside of subway and the meal plan? If you guys think that it’s better to drive 5 miles to go to Walmart to buy a salad instead of walking one building over for another print shop that’s not in the student union then maybe you should go back to community college.
SGA did poll several students. I was outside of the printing lab in the Union one day, and there several kids out there asking others if “there was another lab, that you could just go in and print” would they like to have it.
So SGA did poll students.
As for complaining that they didn’t get anything better. Whats better? A salad bar? Get your ass to Wal-Mart and buy a damn bag of salad. CD shop? Like you don’t download them illegally as it is, or just buy them off iTunes. I mean, I’m not jumping of joy that we have another printing lab, but I’m not tearing my eyes out because of it.
Don’t we have enough print shops? And moreover, don’t people have printers?
As a former employee of the SGA computer lab, it is goddamn awesome to hear that they still offer free printing. We always had a lot of pride in being the god damn, mother f’n, best damned computer lab on mother f’n campus.
Sounds like the next generation is keepin it real
Why is this “BREAKING” news?
Lame decision by UCF! Take a student body poll and let the tuition-paying students decide what goes in our union!
Another printing place doesn’t really do anything for me, but it’s a FAR FAR better decision than a damn salad bar (or any food place). There are enough of those all over the campus. If students can’t find healthy eating options, they aren’t looking.
Honestly, I’m up in the air about this… It would be worthwhile if this print shop is free. If I need to pay, I might as well go to the library or Classroom 1 as Lauren said. We already have a lot places where we have to pay to print.
you’re all stupid. you guys want a salad bar (cause that will definitely be in high demand for the majority of kids at ucf) and nicole obviously doesn’t read all the news on here saying that sga’s money CAN’T BE USED FOR PROFESSORS, PARKING, LIBRARY, ACADEMIC RESEARCH etc.
i use the free printing lab and everytime I go the line backs up to the stairs. i’m glad as hell that the kids i voted for (ya to get pizza but whatever) are actually trying to fix the problems all the idiots before them made.
oh and again for the bimbo nicole: what percentage of students can actually print at the honors college? yea, stfu.
this is ridiculous. Although, “stupid”‘s idea of a salad bar to gain “hordes of hot chicks” isn’t exactly a better one… (really?) Students in the Honors college print for free in their own print lab, SGA has free printing, and the library and CL1 also have printing available. PLUS, with so many professors moving more and more strongly towards turnitin.com and Webcourses online to submit papers, I could see this surplus of print labs becoming outdated in a few years… nice to know our tuition increases are going to something so incredibly pointless. Spend this money on more parking, or an updated library/research center!!!!
This is ridiculous!!! We do not need another print shop on campus. There are ones all over campus. SGA should have asked the students what they wanted in the union since it is OUR union. Plus, did we elect these people because they said they would be the voice of the students.
Wow, really? Another print shop? As Clayton posted, there are TWO in the breezeway alone. Plus, if I need to print a 2 or 3 page paper, I pay the stupid 30 cents and print it out in the library or CL1 lab. We don’t need another print shop. Why not ASK the student body what we actually want to put there, ya know, since it is the STUDENT UNION and all?
The people who make these decisions are so clueless.
I don’t understand why they didn’t go with the salad bar. There are zero salad bars on campus other than the meal plan. How many UCF hot chicks would prefer to get a salad instead of subway? I tell you this my friends. If you can keep UCF girls hot by providing them with salads, UCF will become a place of legend written about in countless stories where many thin seductive hot girls roam the sidewalks in hoards.
I honestly rather wait for the printing in the student union.
Lame decision by UCF.
There is already two print shops in the breezeway right next to the student union. There is also one in the engeneering building. I think there is one over in Knights Plaza. I dont think we need another one.
WTF?
LAME.
