Imagine waiting around for the newest episode of television’s new hit series, Flashforward, to come on, and all of the sudden the power goes out. Well, that’s what happened to me and many other residents of Academic Village. From the hours of 7:58 p.m until 8:57 p.m. the power unexpectedly went off.
Much confusion was thrown up in the air, and no one understood what was  going on. Residents began to leave their dorms as soon as the incident occurred, ultimately being surprised that it had happened not just on their floor, but to everyone in their vicinity. Students began to get together in common areas, outside or anywhere else where they could find a light post. The residents of Hercules even began to have a “party” and just socialized.
At about 8:30 p.m., we received information that a blown transformer had caused the power failure, and that it would momentarily be back on. When asked if anyone had a “legitimate” question, no one dared to ask how long “momentarily” really meant.
The power came back on a few minutes later, and everyone returned to the safety of their dorms to enjoy the gift Thomas Edison left us: electricity.
