UCF police said between the time of 6:00pm and 6:15pm, they shut down Garages A & H. The chief said students called police after Corey Carr, a 31-year-old UCF Student, was walking around the halls of Classroom 1 making comments about blowing up the building and killing people.

UCF Police responded in under one minute, arresting Carr on the charges of a hoax device, and interfering with the educational process. FBI agents and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted, especially in light of the recent deadly downtown Orlando shooting rampage and Fort Hood masacre.

Using the text message and email system, UCF police were able to notify students minutes after decisions were made. This, in addition to police response time, prevented them from locking down the entire campus. Despite a positive search by an explosives K-9 unit, the search has come up negative for any explosives in or around Carr’s vehicle.
