Yesterday I received a press release about the “major violations” involving two former employees of the UCF Football program. When I saw the words “major violations”, I was worried the penalties could be loss of scholarships or even worse loss of postseason play.
Then I saw the penalties weren’t so “major”, as all the UCF Football program needs to do is be good for five years and everyone will forget this ever happened.
The three penalties were two years probation (but these violations won’t go away until five years from now), recruiting restrictions (which have been completed) and the two former employees are suspended for two weeks
The names were not released in the report but I was still curious what happened to these two former employees. One, Ed Marynowitz, is the director of player personnel at the University of Alabama and the other, Steve Rubio, is with the University of Tennessee.
UCF’s reacted perfectly when they discovered the violations and still got two years. But Rubio and Marynowitz did everything wrong and the only thing they got we’re two week’s vacation.
It just goes to show you how hard our recruiting team worked this year by getting the best recruiting class ever while having recruiting restrictions. A lot of praise should go to David Kelly, who was responsible for landing all of our top recruits.
Look forward to 2011 recruiting class being even better because Kelly won’t have to worry about any recruiting restrictions.
