7-Year-Old Single Ladies: Does It Cross A Line?
Beyond UCF, Culture — By Staff on May 16, 2010 at 4:20 pmA viral video showing 7-year-old girls in first grade, dressed extremely provocatively and dancing to Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’, is causing outrage across the nation.
And the moves the young girls make are very mature — some of the moves might not even be deemed appropriate for UCF’s Homecoming Skit Knight competition.
The video hit YouTube, and has attracted more than 2 million views under the title: “Little Girls Going Hard on Single Ladies.”
Some newspapers and national talk shows are asking how many of those viewers are pedophiles. They’re also asking: What were these girls’ parents thinking when they allowed them to dance like this at such a young age.
The Washington Post headline read: “Following in Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ footsteps strips 7-year-olds of innocence.”
The video was taped about a month ago during the World of Dance competition in Pomona, California.
KnightNews.com has obtained a copy of the video. Take a look at it, then share your thoughts: Does this video cross the line?

It seems everybody is either completely hating this or only saying super positive things.
I feel both; i think they are amazingly talented little dancers, really very talented.
I also did feel slightly icky when watching them dressed like that and making movements that are just very ‘mature’. And i’m not a prude, also i dance myself and i know in jazz dance some movements just are that way.
I don’t think 7 year olds only have to do cute Disney dances in tutu’s but the choreographer and teacher just has to be aware that lots of people watching them are going to judge them.
And it’s a shame to NOT judge them on their amazing dancing skills but on their outfits/movements. So just dress them up slightly more appropriate, perhaps?
ah well, what do i know.
you’re all just jealous of their amazing talent. they should be praised for their perfect timing, pointed toes, spacing, flexibility, technique, energy, enthusiasm, facials, etc. They should be challenged with a more difficult dance like this with the talent they have. they are an inspiration to other dancers. keep up the good work girls!
Hi, fantastic document. I am a major fan of your blog page. I have been attempting to get ahold of you to find out if maybe we are able to focus on some ideas about guide by means of an email chat. If you can, fabulous. Or else, no worries.
this by far too disturbing thing i ever seen in my life. i got a niece who 7 years old and she good at dancing, so i ask her mom (my sister) if she can see this video. my niece saw it and said that these girls r disgusting and that whoever taught them that dance are disgraceful influence.
It is up to the parent, not the public. I don’t personally agree to the outfits, but it no different than little girls wearing bathing suits and dancing. It happens.
Hahaha… Everyone’s saying ‘kids are growing up too fast these days’. But have we ever considered the fact that they aren’t really growing up, its just part of what kids do, they mimic adults. I remember being 7 and i always copied what my older brothers would do because i thought it would be ‘cooler’… its the adult generation now that are influencing the next generation. stop pointing the finger and look at yourselves. Another thing is, is that they probably don’t think much of what they’re doing, its just a dance to them, only we, who perceive it in such a ‘mature’ way deem it inappropriate for them, but then again when is wearing clothes like that ever appropriate, even if you are an adult, 21+?…
This goes to show that many people in scoiety want to grow up so fast. Yes the girls danced really well..but in a few years if they continue dancing things like this then how much more “procavacative” can they get, they pretty much have it all in the video minus the stripper pole? What about being an actual 7 years old and having fun, yes you can dance at that age, but dance appropriote things, not thinsg that are meant for 21+…
I would NEVER let my little girl do this. Any parent who would is crazy! and should have their rights removed!
They did a great job; it shows they really worked hard. Their age … hmmm I am not sure if I would have let my daughters do it however I would have to think about that more.
