The owner of Pegasus Landing apartment community that serves in excess of 2,500 college students would like to respond as clearly as possible to some misconceptions that might have been contained in a press release out earlier today by the University of Central Florida.

In the Press Release dated May 7th, UCF indicated that it asked the owners of Pegasus Landing to:

“Produce a comprehensive plan that appropriately addresses all inspection and repair issues.”
In fact, a plan to address immediate concerns was developed on April 6th and was being implemented until UCF Foundation sent a Notice of Default to the owner last Friday, April 30th.”

“Relocate students from apartments because of mold/water intrusion.”

In fact, such relocations regarding the known presence of mold had already been executed.
“Conduct additional air quality tests.”

In fact, until the filing of the Notice, (which effectively halted all corrective action that was already underway) air quality tests, repair and renovation work was being implemented in accordance with the previously mentioned plan.
“Communicate regularly and openly about the building issues.”

In fact, the owner hired Massey Communications, Inc. on April 8th on the reference of both the University and the University Foundation, expressly for that purpose. A comprehensive communication plan, including development of a web site (begun on Thursday, May 6th), installation of a dedicated direct response telephone answering function to accept additional requests for inspections, repairs and information (to be operational early next week) was submitted by the Agency and approved by the owners of Pegasus Landing.

All of this was underway when the University Foundation issued the Notice of Default; aware that such action would have the immediate effect of halting all of the work the owner was already doing.

The owner of Pegasus Landing stands ready to reintroduce all of the steps it was already committed to taking and was, in fact taking, as soon as the bond holder for the property releases it to do so.
