Five days after the deadline for candidate declarations, UCF’s Student Government Association has released a list of candidates running for senate.

The SGA Senate approves a budget of about $15 million in student money each year. Most people are running unopposed.

KnightNews.com will provide in depth coverage of SGA elections over the next couple weeks, but we wanted to get you the list now that it has been released.

Why should Pozin be allowed to run for senate after he was impeached?

  • Re: Jake says:

It is a rule to promote elections, but since the Chief Elections Commissioner is buddies with the guy in charge of the Ticket that a majority of the Senate is a part of, there was no need to advertise. I have been involved in SGA my entire time at UCF up until this year and even I didn’t know elections were coming up, I feel bad for the student body.

  • Jake says:

Why didn’t SGA advertise this election before the deadline? Isn’t there a rule saying they have to advertise this stuff? I know local governments do. Jeesh…

    Oh dearest “What a Joke,”
Your quote, “The fact that almost all of the incumbent candidates have no opposition is only a testament to how terrible a job this administration is doing,” has no bearing in reality or any other facts.

I was never (Directly) involved in SGA, but it seems just as someone with a working knowledge of politics, that if the incumbents are unopposed, that would be an indication of them doing a good enough job that people are not in uproar to vote for someone else.

You’d think that if people really were as upset at Kilbride as you falsely think they are, then people would be sense blood in the water and try and snatch up the incumbents seats.

Also, consider the fact that the two branches are not connected. Kilbride is executive. The Senate is legislative.

They offer classes at UCF that explain how a branch government system works. I believe it is called “American Government.” Consider taking it. It’s pretty interesting.

  • What a Joke says:

Looks like Speaker Pope pulled one from the Kilbride playbook – eliminate anyone who could possibly run against you to stifle democracy in the name of keeping your cronies elected. Why would they want anyone to run against them when they can continue to use SGA funds to travel to Buffalo on the student’s dime and continue the same BS that was had under Lambda Chi? Same shit, different fraternity and different bunch of power hungry douchebags.

Please do me a favor ASF and vote to eliminate yourselves as a committee so I no longer have to waste $10.79 a credit hour paying your salaries to keep your broski’s in office. I’d much rather pay that money to a committee of half administrators/half students, atleast I know then it won’t be abused by a bunch of power hungry 19-21 year olds who don’t even know how to balance their own checkbook, let alone a $15.5 million dollar budget. Please kids!

The fact that almost all of the incumbent candidates have no opposition is only a testament to how terrible a job this administration is doing and how they will stop at nothing to continue their idea of a spoils system. It also is a testament to how little interest the student body now takes in Student Government from last year’s administration, simply because these guys are awful. What happened to SGA? Oh wait, Kilbride ate it. Figuratively, AND literally! Stick to running Knight-Thon!
