After dismantling UAB (1-4) by a score of 42-7 and picking up their first conference win of the season, the Knights (3-2) enter tonight’s game against Marshall (1-4) with all the confidence needed to secure another conference victory.
UCF Offense
Freshman QB Jeffrey Godfrey leads UCF with 531 passing yards and 283 rushing yards, placing him 16th in the nation in rushing yards amongst quarterbacks.
Since Godfrey has started, the Knights have held a record of 2-1, the one disappointing loss against Kansas State by a score of 17-13.
UCF’s wide-receiver A.J. Guyton leads the team in receptions (16) and receiving yards (201 receiving yards), averaging 12.6 yards per catch with one touchdown on the season.
In addition, senior wide-receiver Jamar Newsome is coming off of a big game, catching three passes for 68 yards. Newsome is finally getting an opportunity to showcase his talent and is already projected to surpass last season’s performance when he caught for 289 total yards.
UCF Defense
UCF’s defense has only given up four touchdowns this season and currently ranks ninth in the nation in yards per game allowed (265.2) and eighth in points against (13.8).
Facing up against Marshall’s running game, which ranks as one of the least productive in the nation, UCF’s defense should have no problem preventing the Thundering Herd from breaking for long gains.
Marshall
Marshall’s starting quarterback, Brian Anderson, has thrown for 880 yards on the season, including eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
The team’s wide-receiver Antavious Wilson is tied for fifth in the nation in receiving touchdowns, catching a total of five thus far on the season.
At home Marshall has produced two of their top games of the season. They fell short to West Virginia during overtime by a game winning field goal and captured a win against Ohio, giving up 24 points in both contests
Prediction
With dual-threat quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey averaging 56.6 rushing yards per game and causing mayhem for opponents’ defense, all signs point to UCF picking up their sixth straight victory over Marshall this Wednesday.
Kickoff begins at 8 pm EST at Marshall.
