Yesterday, the College Democrats brought Kal Penn, the actor best known for his roles in the Harold and Kumar movie series and “House,” to campus to speak about the importance of voting.
“I want to encourage folks to get there out and vote,” Kal said in a one on one interview with KnightNews.com. “Sixty-eight percent of young Americans voted for President Obama… the President won, and was able to take care of us by passing financial aid reform that brings 60 billion dollars back into students pockets; friends are coming home from Iraq.”
Kal Penn left his acting career behind last year to join the Obama administration as an Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement. “Its been an honor to take a break and do this,” Kal said. “Especially with all the great success its been in the last 2 years.”
Despite all of the progress that Penn stated was being made, he believes more needs to happen. “Obviously there’s a lot more that still needs to be done, there’s an economic crisis, that the president’s trying very hard to fix, we still have a war in Afghanistan, we still need to pass comprehensive immigration reform, legislatively overturn don’t ask, don’t tell, move a little further on Darfur.
“I’m hopeful that’s all going to get done, but it won’t get done unless people vote.”
