Last winter, I sat down for an interview with local DJ celebratory, Derek Walin, to discuss his success in the DJ world. Our conversation, which was scheduled for only 15 minutes, transformed into a two-hour-long conversation, with Walin discussing his aspirations of owning a record label, and sharing new music with me. I left the interview cognizant on Walin’s life story and a full-list of artists he recommend I check out. One of them went by the name Amtrac.
Now, I had never heard of Amtrac, probably because he was just a local DJ out of Kentucky at the time, so I was curious to hear this mystery DJ’s sound. As I hit play on the first song I saw of his, my mind was instantly blown. This kid was producing and remixing unreal beats. How had I not danced to his music yet?
About a month later, Derek called to tell me that Amtrac would be in town, opening for the Steve Aoki show at Roxy. He invited me to go and I obviously immediately accepted; I was ecstatic to see Walin’s mystery counterpart. And to no surprise, Amtrac played just as good live as I expected.
Almost a year later, and Amtrac has exploded within the Florida EDM scene. Since his show with Aoki last February, Amtrac has signed with Walin’s new record label, The Super Music Group. He has shared the stage with top DJ/producers in the country such as, Diplo, Designer Drugs, L.A. Riots, Flosstradamus, Pretty Lights and Kid Sister, as well as released his latest EP ‘WHY,’ on iTunes.
Now living in Miami, Amtrac spends his days creating remixes and performing at top nightclubs. He has played at many cities throughout Florida and will return to Orlando this weekend with Walin, to open for Steve Aoki again, downtown at Vain.
