The Executive Board of Greek Week 2011 would like to issue a formal response to your recent articles “Outrage in OFSL” and “UCF: Belinda Boston Didn’t Restrict Greek Week Socials; Student Leaders Did.”

Greek Week is a time to unite Greek students from all four councils and celebrate the values of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life: brotherhood/sisterhood, scholarship, service, and leadership. These values are what Greek students should strive to live by every day, not just throughout this week. In keeping with these values, the Greek Week Executive Board has planned a week of fun, alcohol-alternative events that will enable students to showcase their talents, athleticism, and dedication to the surrounding community. All official Greek Week events, as planned by the executive board, are alcohol free events and open to all UCF students. Every event planned throughout the week is social in nature, and we strongly encourage participants to interact with people outside of their respective councils and chapters.

The Greek Week Executive Board does not have the authority to determine if a SERF or SAFE form for a social event gets approved. The Executive Board chose to plan a night free from Greek Week activities in order to allow teams the freedom to schedule a social if they pleased. There was no discussion or decision made to limit any socials in any way. However, we do support any decisions made by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life to restrict alcohol consumption throughout this week. We also ask that you to take pride in your letters and focus on the founding principles of Greek Life and the UCF Creed.

We look forward to having KnightNews cover Greek Week events and hope to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone. Please contact me if you have any further questions, Megan Reid (redacted number), Student Director of Greek Week 2011.
