Beta Theta Pi is without a partner. We’re hearing reports Beta is trying to persuade Zeta and ATO to let it join that team, however, it’s not clear yet whether ATO will allow Beta to join, and as a result leave only Lambda Chi and Phi Delt as the only major fraternities with one sorority all to themselves. KnightNews.com will continue following this developing story. We live streamed coverage anchored by Andrew Stein in the Knight News studios and Kevin Wolkenfeld live in the field all over both On Campus and Off Campus Greek Park. We hope you enjoyed it and thank you for the tremendous viewing turnout. We’ll work to put together highlights of the night soon.
BREAKING NEWS 10:45 P.M. FROM OUR LIVESTREAM TICKER ALPHA DELTA PI OFFICIALLY PICKS LAMBDA CHI ALPHA. KAPPA DELTA PICKS PHI DELTA THETA. MAJOR BREAKING NEWS ON THE ‘RACE TO WATCH’ FOR KAPPA ALPHA THETA. WE’RE HEARING THAT THETA CHI DID NOT WANT TO PAIR UP WITH A SMALLER FRATERNITY IN ORDER TO PAIR WITH THETA. IT APPEARS IT WILL BE THETA CHI OR NOTHING. STAY TUNED TO KNIGHTNEWS.COM FOR MORE. WE’VE GOTTEN A TEXT SAYING SIGMA CHI AND DELTA TAU DELTA ARE PAIRED WITH TRI-DELTA SORORITY.
BREAKING NEWS 6:40 P.M. We’re getting multiple reports of our “race to watch” of the night. We just got a text tip that ZBT will now be “suiciding” Kappa Alpha Theta, meaning going only for them. We’re also told that ZBT may try and pair up with Theta Chi and get Kappa Alpha Theta as a team. Check back for updates, and text us your tips to 407-5-tip-ucf.
UPDATE 3:24 P.M. We just got a tip texted to our tipline at 407-5-Tip-UCF stating that Sigma Nu is paired up with Kappa Sig. The tipster confirmed what we reported earlier, which is that Kappa Sig is going for Pi Beta Phi. KnightNews.com will continue working our sources and reviewing tips and update our projections as the day moves on.
In just a few hours, UCF fraternity and sorority members will make choices that will impact how much of their Fall semester is spent. Tonight is Homecoming Serenades. And KnightNews.com is the place to find out which sorority will pair with what fraternity, live as it happens, so make sure you keep checking back.
KnightNews.com will have a team of crews across UCF’s Greek Park tonight to relay who is serenading who, capture it on camera and quickly turn it around and post it right here. We’ll be working our sources throughout the night and monitoring our tip line at 407-5-Tip-UCF (407-584-7823) for texts and phone calls (store this number now!) to gather and post the late-breaking developments. You can send anonymous UCF news tips here.

For those new to the UCF Homecoming selection process, or for those unfamiliar with why Greek Park is more decorated than usual lately, it’s a time of year when fraternities shower sororities with gifts, attention and signs of devotion (literally), ahead of serenading the ladies tonight. You could think of it as a cross between a professional sports draft and a US presidential election.
The serenade is a proposal from that fraternity to pair with that sorority for UCF Homecoming 2011, and in turn spend lots of time together in Fall as Homecoming partners. The sorority chapters then take a vote to pick which one of the fraternities that serenaded them they want as a first choice. The sorority then notifies that fraternity they were picked, and the fraternity will then, based on its options, accept the offer on the spot, put it on hold or decline it. Putting it on hold to wait for a different sorority to make an offer risks losing the first sorority, if that sorority gets sick of waiting and works out a deal with another fraternity in the meantime. It’s a fast-paced, high-risk game and it can result in some groups being left out without any partner at all if they don’t play the game right.
See video from our archive’s of last year’s serenade of Alpha Xi Delta by Theta Chi
Text us at 407-5-tip-ucf when your serenade is about to happen, so we can send a crew to get video of you going in. Email us pics and video once its done to news@knightnews.com
As we’ve seen in the past, nothing is definite until the night happens. This year, however, there seem to be less major head-to-head battles with the largest fraternities, making it seem that there is less potential for ripple effects based on those outcomes. Here’s what we’re hearing from our sources about how things are shaking out so far:
PROJECTED PAIRINGS:
Alpha Delta Pi:
KnightNews.com projects this sorority will pick Lambda Chi Alpha
Kappa Delta
KnightNews.com projects this sorority will pick Phi Delta Theta
Zeta Tau Alpha
KnightNews.com projects this sorority will pick Alpha Tau Omega
Delta Delta Delta
KnightNews.com projects this sorority will pick Sigma Chi, along with Delta Tau Delta as long as these two fraternities stick together as a team. When joined together, both fraternities contribute the characteristics a powerhouse sorority like DDD looks for in a Homecoming partner (adequate size, financial stability, and a proper pool of attractive potential homecoming buddies).
TOO CLOSE TO CALL:
Kappa Alpha Theta: KnightNews.com’s Top Race to Watch
KnightNews.com is listing the fight for Kappa Alpha Theta between Theta Chi and Beta Theta Pi as too close to call at this point, although early “exit polling,” if you will, indicates Theta Chi should have a leg up going into this, based on its larger chapter size and house. Still, anything can happen. The fight for Kappa Alpha Theta will be KnightNews.com’s top race to watch tonight for a several reasons.
1) Ever since Kappa Alpha Theta took over the old SigEp house, the sorority is on the rise. It doesn’t need to settle for being a fraternity’s “second choice” if it doesn’t want to, and Beta and Theta Chi have taken note.
2) It’s no secret that Theta Chi and Beta Theta Pi have a bitter SGA rivalry, and those hostile feelings could spill over and fuel the fire in this race. This one could get personal. The good news for Theta Chi is SGA President Mike Kilbride shouldn’t be able to pull any stunts to give Beta an unfair advantage here. This one will likely be decided by good, old fashioned serenading and being able to convince the sorority which fraternity brings the most to the table for its reputation and potential for fun during Homecoming week.
Alpha Xi Delta
KnightNews.com is hearing from our sources that Delta Upsilon is going for Alpha Xi Delta for homecoming. If that’s the case, we would project that the sorority would pick DU, if DU picked up another fraternity to join its team. We are working to confirm some tips we got that DU brought Sigma Pi onto its serenade team. Once we’re able to look more into this race, and confirm a potential DU fraternity pairing for its serenade team, we’ll feel more comfortable projecting this towards DU.
Pi Beta Phi
KnightNews.com is leaning toward Kappa Sigma being picked by Pi Beta Phi, but this one is still too close to call too. That’s not to say this isn’t in the bag for Kappa Sig, but we honestly haven’t heard enough from our sources on this race to make a projection. We also are curious to see how the other races turn out to see if this one could be impacted.
Chi Omega
KnightNews.com has learned Alpha Epsilon Pi is going for Chi Omega for homecoming. This race is too close for KnightNews.com to call at this point.
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Sources tell KnightNews.com Tau Kappa Epsilon has been considering going for this sorority. KnightNews.com is working to get further confirmation on this, and right now it’s too close to call this race.
Kappa Kappa Gamma
We’re working our sources to determine which fraternities are setting their sights on this sorority. We will provide updates once we get new information. Feel free to text us a tip at 407-5-TIP-UCF or email us pictures/info at news@knightnews.com.
Outstanding Fraternities
We’re working to find out the plans of the fraternities we haven’t mentioned yet as well. If you know where ZBT, Fiji, Sigma Nu or anyone else has its sights set, feel free to text us a tip at 407-5-TIP-UCF or email us pictures/info at news@knightnews.com.
