Adding to an already stellar year, UCF men’s basketball sophomore Isaiah Sykes was named Conference-USA’s Player of the Week after an impressive week.
The sophomore averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in two games against Marshall and Southern Miss last week. Sykes also posted an outstanding 72 percent from the field in the games, which the Knights split 1-1.
He scored 15 points on seven-of-11 shooting, and grabbed 10 rebounds in UCF’s big win over Marshall to start the week, while posting a career-high 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting, to go along with 10 rebounds, in the Knights loss to Southern Miss.
Sykes has unquestionably been the Knights most improved player this year and a large reason for the team’s success.
After averaging just four points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season, Sykes has erupted for 12.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in helping lead the Knights to an 18-7 overall record and fourth place (7-4) in Conference-USA this year.
This is third Knight to win the C-USA Player of the Week honors this season, with Keith Clanton and A.J. Rompza also earning the honors.
UCF will return to action Saturday against East Carolina at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena.
