UCF is looking into adding an open air tiki-style bar on the East side of BrightHouse Networks Stadium.
The bar, which was first reported by Orlando Business Journal, would be accessible for fans starting in the 2014 season. The estimated cost, reported at 1.2-1.5 million is no drop in the bucket, but UCF Athletic Director Todd Stansbury feels it would add a Florida-centric feeling to the stadium.
“The idea is to create an open air club that has kind of sports bar feel to it, and really emphasize the fact that we’re in Florida,” Stansbury said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel.
“Creating an open-air club and taking on the Florida personality is something I really want to do. So when that side of stadium is on TV, you see palm trees and fans, it’s an open-air concept, so you know you’re at UCF, that you’re in Bright House and in the middle of Florida.”
With UCF having three nationally televised football games next season, Stansbury feels that the stadium needs to take on a personality of its own.
The open-air bar would be located across from the suites in the west tower, increasing the amenities that are already available to to patrons in the club and suite levels.
