Chabad at UCF and the Chabad Jewish Student Group will be teaming up this year to offer students free holiday services and meals for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins on Wednesday evening and Chabad at UCF is making it possible for any student unable to make it home for the Jewish holidays to enjoy services and a meal for free while in the company of fellow students.
“We are a student’s home-away-from-home and are here for them, 24/7, for anything they may need,” Rabbi Chaim Lipskier said. “For one student it might be a warm meal, for another an open ear, and another a place to ask philosophical questions and explore his or her heritage.”
Chabad at UCF opens its doors for any student or faculty needing a place for High Holiday services, meals or just to hang out. Services are user-friendly, with explanation throughout, geared for the interests and mindset of a college student.
“It is always hard for students to be away from their families during the Jewish holidays, so we try to make that transition as easy as possible,” Mrs. Rivkie Lipskier, co-director of Chabad at UCF, said. “Just knowing that they have a place to come for the holiday meals and can attend services that are meaningful and inspirational, makes it that much easier and comforting for them.”
No one will be turned away and everyone is welcome.”
Rosh Hoshanah begins this year after sundown on Wednesday evening, September 4 and extends until nightfall on Saturday night, September 7. Yom Kippur begins this year after sundown on the eve of September 13 and extends until nightfall on Saturday, September 14.
The services and dinner will be Wednesday Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chabad house, located at 600 Oak Circle, Oviedo, FL 32765. It is free for students. Students can also reserve a space online here.
