Three years ago Dancers Royal General Manager Geo Hall and bartender Jeff Shiver decided to do something different. They understood that their adult entertainment club could do more than entertain — they could also give back to the community.
“We wanted something that people would get behind, want to do, and want to be a part of,” Hall said. “We thought: what’s better than doing a charity event?”
They came up with the Orlando Owners Give Back Charity Event, an annual bartending competition for charity. Each business selects a charity of their choice to compete for and then sends out their owner and one bartender to guest tend for one night at Dancers. The top three businesses that bring in the most donations wins.
First place gets fifty percent of the proceeds, while second and third place each receive twenty-five percent. While other competitors might not raise money for their charity, they are raising awareness of that charity and their cause.
Last year, local bar Jake & Micky’s won first place and donated nearly $3,000 to Rock Pink, a charity whose mission is to raise breast health awareness and support local breast cancer programs. Second place went to bartenders Brodie and JJ from Smokey Bones, who also donated their share to Rock Pink.
This year, Hall hopes to break the $6,000 mark set last year, and with about a month left in the completion, Dancers is near a third of the way there.
Many of last year’s champions and contenders are back again, and though the event started Sept. 9, Hall isn’t sure exactly when the event will end.
“I have people knocking at the door,” Hall said about the amount of companies that want to participate in and support the Orlando Owners Give Back Charity Event.
