Insomnia Cookies, a late-night cookie bakery set to open at Plaza on University, was notified to “stop work” by order of Orange County Building Official.
KnightNews.com reached out to Permitting Services at Orange County and Insomnia Cookies to find out why a stop work notice was on the premise.
“Stop Work was requested by the general contractor and it applies only to the building permit. All sub-permits such as electrical, plumbing and mechanical have active contractors and can proceed,” according to Aneta Joanna Duhigg, Division of Building Safety Administrator for Orange County.
Insomnia Cookies also responded, saying that they did apply and receive permits but unfortunately were unhappy with the work being done by one of their local contractors, according to Megan M. Bruton, Senior Director of Marketing for Insomnia Cookies/Serve U Brands.
“It is city policy that we stop work while we replace that contractor and that is the reason for the posting at the location, ” Bruton said.
“Being a part of the community is integral to who we are as a brand so we make sure we are always following local protocol. That said work should begin again shortly on our store and we look forward to serving warm, delicious cookies to the Orlando community.”
Insomnia Cookies hopes to open later this summer, according to Bruton.
