Orlando, Fla. – Redshirt freshman receiver Tre’Quan Smith has been named the American Athletic conference rookie of the year.
Smith had a spectacular freshman season and made headlines with two acrobatic catches; one against Tulsa and another against USF.
For the season, Smith notched 52 catches for 724 yards, both UCF freshman receiving records. He was unable to break the freshman receiving touchdown record with only four, one shy of tying the record of five touchdowns.
Smith is the third UCF player to earn this prestigious award. Kevin Smith was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 2005 and Jeff Godfrey won the award in 2010.
