Sophomore B.J. Taylor will sit out the remainder of the 2015-16 season due to a ‘lower leg injury,’ UCF men’s basketball head coach Donnie Jones announced Wednesday.

The October injury at practice led the coaching staff to bench Taylor for a series of games to ensure a full recovery. Although Jones noted signs of improvement earlier in the month, the guard has yet to reach a game-ready condition.

“After a few months of rehabbing, B.J.’s lower leg injury has not healed as quickly as expected,” Jones stated in a press release. “Due to the injury needing much more time to heal, we have decided to redshirt B.J. this season. He is a valuable member of our team, both on and off the court, but we feel this will give B.J. the appropriate amount of time to get back to 100 percent. We look forward to his return to the court next season.”

Taylor quickly became the team’s leading scorer, alongside Adonys Henriquez, during the 2014-15 season, ranking 10th overall in the league with an average 12.8 points a game. The previous season had the then-freshman lead all league freshman in points to earn a spot on the All-Rookie Team.
