Huey Magoo’s has returned to the University of Central Florida Student Union.

On Tuesday, the chicken tender business opened its lines for the first time since January of 2017 after having their lease terminated.

Orientation parents and students were among the first to try the chicken tenders and fries, filling lines quickly for a successful Day One.

Due to continued health violations, Asian Chao and Huey Magoo’s had their leases terminated by UCF in January. Employees at the chicken tender restaurant claimed the violations were as a result of Asian Chao, stating the kitchen was not used in servicing food to students. Asian Chao will not return, nor will Corner Cafe, so Magoo’s will service students and faculty with double the space of the original express restaurant.

Students, unhappy with the loss of one of the Student Union’s most popular restaurants, took to social media and to the express restaurant itself to voice their discontent.

Original plans for the UCF Student Union expansion included Huey Magoo’s growing to their full service menu. It is unclear why Huey Magoos’ lease became reinstated following termination. Knight News has communicated with UCF officials on the reinstatement.

The current Union was constructed in 1997, when UCF student enrollment included only 28,000 students. Now, with 63,000 students, the Board of Trustees approved a construction project and multi-million dollar agreement with Aramark to provide a 21st century heart of campus to students.

Additional seating – 400 to 1,150, and 315 seats to about 750 in the food court alone, power outlets, and a second floor to the food court can be expected with the project. Additional restaurants have been selected for the expansion.

Boar’s Head currently operates at as a ‘pop up’ restaurant in place of the loss of the three restaurants at the time.

“Customers will find an expanded menu in place that now includes sandwiches,” Senior Communications Coordinator Mark Schlueb said.

“After the Student Union renovation is complete, the plan is to offer the full menu, which also includes items like grilled tenders.
