A former UCF student and member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority was killed in an accident on Interstate 4 Tuesday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
Marissa Lybarger, 21, attended UCF from 2014 to 2016. While at UCF, she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, which posted a tribute to Marissa on their Instagram profile.
“To someone who always knew how to light up a room – you are loved, you are missed, and you will be remembered. As we cherish our memories, we are thankful to have known you and to call you our sister, always and forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones who are remembering Marissa’s beautiful soul. You will be missed dearly,” the post read.
According to Lybarger’s LinkedIn profile, she was attending classes at Seminole State College and was projected to earn a B.S. in Business Administration and Management in 2021.
Lybarger was driving behind a dump truck in a 2013 Chevy Malibu around 11:30 p.m. For reasons unknown, Lybarger failed to slow as she approached the rear of the dump truck, crashing into it. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, a 59-year-old man, was uninjured. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating the accident.
