Parents of new UCF students are outraged that the school is holding a mandatory event for all freshmen but aren’t providing transportation to those students to get there.
The University of Central Florida is holding an event called Convocation, which is mandatory for first-year students to attend. The only issue is that shuttles to surrounding apartments, where many new students are living, do not run on Sunday — leaving many first time students unable to get to the mandatory event at the UCF Arena.
“No one had the foresight to contract the bus service for today’s special event,” a student’s mother posted on a Facebook page in regard to the situation. “All of the kids in the neighboring affiliated apartments, as well as some on campus, have not been provided with transportation for this mandatory event.”
According to a UCF website, Convocation is a celebration of the beginning of your academic journey at the University of Central Florida. All first-year students will assemble as a class distinctly foreshadowing your graduation celebration.

But parents are upset that their students are unable to get to the arena without provided transportation.
“Many of them haven’t learned the campus layout yet, don’t know their way around town, don’t know friends or roommates yet – at least not well enough to “bum a ride”, let alone it being on their first day,” the student’s mother posted.
