On Wednesday afternoon, July 20, a call went out to the University of Central Florida Police Department on a male taking video of female juveniles in the female restroom inside of the CFE Arena.
A coach of the cheerleading team spoke with a UCF PD officer, stating several of the camp-goers were inside of the female restroom while the suspect, Jonathan Hui, used a cell phone to tape one of the girls using the restroom. The cheerleading coach then quickly moved to confront the suspect, witnessing Hui exiting the bathroom as he arrived.
A custodial worker questioned Hui as to what he was doing in the bathroom and the suspect would take off running.
The coach and another staff member demanded Hui to stop, to which he responded “I’m sorry – I delete them now” and continued an attempt to escape.
The individual ran through Jimmy Johns and out to East Plaza drive onto Memory Mall.
UCF Football wide receiver Tristan Payton ran to Hui near the Starbucks and tackled the suspect, detaining Hui until police arrived. Hui could be seen ‘tinkering with his phone’ and would have the phone held by Payton while waiting for authorities.
The suspect soon faced an interview with officers at the university police station after being detained.
A press conference will be held by UCF PD on Thursday, July 21, at 4 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium.
