UCF played a very efficient game outright controlling the entire game with a dominant performance beating West Virginia 45-13.
The first quarter was all entirely controlled by UCF, who played perfectly on all 3 phases scoring 2 passing touchdowns and holding West Virginia to just 54 yards on offense.
However the second quarter was a different story, UCF’s offense could not get anything going. Their first drive ended with a turnover on downs which they followed up with back to back 3 and out drives. On the other side of the ball West Virginia got their scoring started with a rushing touchdown from Khalil Wilkins. The half would finish with a score of 14-7 following a missed field goal by West Virginia.
Coming out of the half UCF received the ball and instantly got to work with a 9 play 92 yard drive resulting in a Jaden Nixon rushing touchdown. The defense was ready as well, they forced a fumble 6 plays into West Virginia’s drive and returned it for a touchdown making the score 28-7.
The UCF defense would continue to dominate, holding the Mountaineers to back to back punts to finish off the quarter. The offense while still doing great had a rough interception halfway through the quarter but recovered quickly once they got the ball back with a 2 play 85 yard drive resulting in a Jaden Nixon rushing touchdown giving UCF a 35-7 lead exiting the 3rd quarter.
Entering the 4th quarter the Knights and Mountaineers traded scoreless drives until UCF kicked a field goal to make the score 38-7. UCF continued to be dominant, holding West Virginia to 2 more 3 and outs and scoring another touchdown making the score 45-7. While West Virginia was able to capitalize on a garbage time interception it was too little too late and UCF had already ran away with the win.
Frost led the Knights to their first conference win of the 2025 season, and UCF was able to show that maybe, just maybe, their season is still salvageable. The Knights enter their second bye week of the season, and will play away against 4-3 Baylor on November 1st.
