After a 35-year coaching career, former UCF head coach Guz Malzahn announced his retirement on Monday, February 2nd, 2026.
In 2021, Gus Malzahn was announced as the head coach for the UCF Knights after his previous coaching stint with the Auburn Tigers in the SEC, which included the loss to UCF in the 2017 Peach Bowl.
In his first year with the Knights, he went 9-4 and brought UCF a win over in-state rival Florida Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl. In his next season with UCF, he went 9-5, which included a loss in the AAC Championship against Tulane as well as a loss against Duke in the Military Bowl.
Malzahn was part of the team when UCF transitioned to the Big 12. In their first season in the Big 12, Malzahn and the Knights went 6-7 with a loss to Georgia Tech in the Gaspiralla Bowl. He would then go on to go 4-8 the next year where he would then resign as the head coach at UCF and would go to Florida State as their Offensive Coordinator.
During his time with the UCF Knights, Gus Malzahn went 28-24 with a conference record of 16-18. He brought UCF bowling three times, with one win, as well as one conference championship appearance. His all time head coaching record stands at 105-62.
