If you’ve ever found yourself groaning after a trip to the Golden Corral buffet near UCF, you might be in for a relief (or disappointment, depending on your love for unlimited rolls). The restaurant, notorious among students for being cheap, filling, and maybe a little questionable, is set to close as it’s about to be replaced by new student housing.
According to documents from WFTV and the Orlando Business Journal, Progressive Capital Group LLC snapped up the 3.6-acre site for a cool $7.2 million, paving the way for new accommodations near campus. The timing couldn’t be better, considering the latest health inspection report on September 27, which listed seven violations. Issues ranged from food debris buildup and employees cooking without hair restraints to water leaking from pipes and some questionable raw shrimp storage.
The good news? Some of these concerns were corrected on-site, like the rogue wet mop drying near the fire riser room. But it might just make you think twice about that last plate of hush puppies mixed in with the shrimp.
