A year after boasting the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft, UCF continued a run of succession to the NFL over draft weekend. Two former Knights were drafted in the first four rounds and two more signed on to undrafted free agent contracts.
Breshad Perriman, WR – Round 1; Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore made Perriman the first player selected from the AAC in the NFL Draft by a single spot at No. 26 overall – Connecticut CB Byron Jones was selected by the Cowboys immediately after – and will utilize him to replace departed deep-threat Torrey Smith. Perriman’s blazing pro-day 40 time rocketed him up the draft charts, while his size projects him among the prototypical star receivers of today. He is considered a raw prospect in regards to route-running but possess enough playmaking ability to justify the rise. Perriman will join former Knights receiver Kamar Aiken with the Ravens.
In his last season at UCF Perriman averaged 20.9 yards per reception and totaled 1044 yards and nine touchdowns on 50 receptions.
Clayton Geathers, S – Round 4; Indianapolis Colts
It was expected that the Colts would shore up a defense ranked in the bottom two thirds of the year in 2014 early on. Geathers was the second defensive back selected by Indianapolis and will be given a chance to compete for playing time early on with significant changeover at the safety position.
The 2014 All-American Conference First Team player had 97 tackles a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception as a senior. He left UCF with 383 career tackles – third most in the Knights’ history.
Jacoby Glenn, CB – UDFA; Chicago Bears
Glenn will be competing for a roster spot on a secondary that was ranked No. 30 against the pass last year, and will likely see most of his action at special teams. Chicago has the tough challenge of facing some of the most talented and promising quarterbacks in the league twice a year – Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and 2014 first round pick Teddy Bridgewater.
Glenn started all 13 games for UCF as a redshirt sophomore and recorded 48 tackles, one forced fumble, 11 pass breakups and seven interceptions.
Rannell Hall, WR – UDFA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Hall joins the Bucs as one of four receivers added to the roster in the later days of the weekend. First-round pick Jameis Winston has inherited two 1,000 yard receivers in his Rookie year, a historical first, but it is clear Tampa wants to surround him with as much talent as possible. There is no guarantee Hall will make the team on a roster deep at both receiver and kick returner.
As a senior he totaled 500 yards and 49 catches but did not catch a touchdown, but did run one in. Hall recorded 2,107 yards and nine touchdowns over his three-year collegiate career.
