UCF junior wide receiver Gabriel Davis announced on social media Wednesday he will forgo his senior year and declare for the 2020 NFL draft.
“To my UCF Family,
The past three seasons have been some of the best years of my life. The friendships and bonds I’ve made with my teammates and coaches are ones that will never be broken. I’m forever grateful to the entire UCF fanbase, student body and community for supporting me from day one. My time as a Knight has been a dream come true.
I also have another dream -— to play in the Nationaal Football League. From my Pop Warner days in Sanford, to my time at Seminole High and then at UCF, the NFL has always been my ultimate goal. I’m announcing that I will be forgoing my senior season to declare for the 2020 NFL draft. This was not an easy decision — but in my heart, I know it was the best one for me as I continue to pursue my dreams.
I want to thank God, who always had a plan for me. I also want to thank my own family – your unconditional love and support through the years has never wavered. Whatever the next chapter of my life holds for me, I know you will be there by my side.
Charge on,
Gabriel Davis #13″
On Tuesday, the junior wide receiver was picked as a third-team All-American after leading UCF with 72 catches, 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior in 2019, according to a UCF Athletics news release.
The Sanford, Florida, native set a new program record for single-season yards and ranks in the top 10 in the nation in both touchdowns and yards, and finished the 2019 regular season with 2,447 career receiving yards — the seventh most in UCF history — and 23 career receiving touchdowns, tied for the second-most in program history.
Davis came to UCF in 2017 as a freshman where he played in and started in all 13 games for the Knights. He recorded 27 catches for 391 yards and four touchdowns, marking the eighth-most catches and sixth-most receiving yards in a season by a freshman in program history.
As a sophomore, the wide receiver played in all 13 games, with 12 starting appearances and was named first-team all-conference by the American Athletic Conference.
Davis recorded 10 plays of 20 yards or more — including two touchdowns, 53 receptions for 815 yards and seven touchdowns — and averaged 15.4 yards per catch with 62.7 all-purpose yards per game. He also recorded a trio of 100-yard receiving games.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
