‘Dear Jack’ Synopsis
Movies & TV, Music — By Sara Dadon on October 26, 2009 at 10:02 pm“Dear Jack” is a documentary that follows Andrew McMahon through highs, like releasing a solo album, and lows, like breaking up with his longtime girlfriend and being diagnosed with leukemia.
McMahon is the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin, and was the lead singer of Something Corporate from 1998 to 2006. In 2005, McMahon was only 22 when he was diagnosed with leukemia.
From having radiation to his hair falling out, the documentary follows him as he deals with the reality of cancer. Tommy Lee narrates the film that opens with the day McMahon finished his solo album, which is coincidentally the same day he was diagnosed with cancer.
Cameras follow him through every terrifying, personal event that comes about, but also talks about his success as an artist and his relationships with those close to him.
The film shows flashbacks to when he first started Jack’s Mannequin and shows different collaborations he did before he got sick. “Dear Jack” will be available on November 3rd in stores, through the Jacks Mannequin website www.JacksMannequin.com and on iTunes.
Starting in December 2009, Andrew McMahon will become a partner of Stand Up To Cancer by participating in its programming to raise awareness and an understanding that everyone is connected by cancer. The group has alreadyraised more than $100 million for cancer research.
Also on November 3rd, The Dear Jack EP will be available on iTunes, which includes four unreleased tracks; “Dear Jack,” “Diane, the Skyscraper,” “There, There Katie,” and “Swim (Music Box).”
Jack’s Mannequins’ newest single “Swim” is from their album The Glass Passenger. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Dear Jack Foundation, the non-profit organization founded by McMahon in 2006, committed to funding cancer research.
